Celebrating International Workers Day at Trabajadores Unidos

On May 1st, we celebrated International Workers Day at Trabajadores Unidos. We took the time to celebrate the people who make our organization and country strong; workers.

Our organization has a strong stake in the wellbeing of workers, which is why we always celebrate them every May 1st. The celebration began with ‘un cafecito’ and conversations about wage theft, OSHA, and safety on the job. These discussions are crucial to have because they ensure the overall safety of workers, and can help to prevent accidents or incidents.

After this session, we hosted our third women’s empowerment group meeting. This has become a safe place for women in our community to gather and talk about serious issues affecting women. This session included a documentary celebrating the work of Dolores Huerta, and a yummy lunch to follow. After this, the group reconvened a bit later to discuss different topics surrounding our community and were accompanied by several Metropolitan Police Officers and ward 1 councilmember candidate, Jackie Reyes. We ended the day with a delicious dinner from Los Hermanos and dancing! 

Through this celebration, we were able to stop and appreciate the difference workers make to our society. We were also able to reconnect with some old friends, long-time members, and get to know new faces. To everyone who helped out and attended, thank you!
